The name Verdeal, as well as its variants, such as Verdeal de Bodiosa and Verdeal Coroada, refers to traditional Portuguese local apple varieties. These varieties are not the result of modern breeding, but rather represent landraces that have been historically cultivated in specific regions of Portugal.

In historical literature, Verdeal-type fruits are described as late-maturing, ripening after the end of the main harvest. Scientific papers on the genetic analysis of Portuguese apple trees confirm the presence of specimens with this name in collections, however, detailed morphological and agronomic descriptions for them are not provided.

It is important to consider that the name Verdeal in Portugal is often applied to different species of fruit and berry crops, including the olive tree, therefore, for the identification of apple trees, clarification of the regional name of the variety is required.
