The variety is of Belgian origin, first discovered as a chance seedling in the municipality of Watervliet in the second half of the 19th century. The tree grows vigorously at a young age, eventually forming a spreading spherical crown, suitable for cultivation as standard trees.

The fruits are medium to large in size, spherical in shape, weighing from 120 to 300 g. The skin is firm, yellow with a red blush and a "rusty" marbled pattern. The flesh is firm, juicy, with a sweet-wine taste, sometimes with a spicy undertone.

The variety belongs to the category of winter apples: harvest occurs in October, consumer maturity is reached in December, and the fruits keep until April–May. The plant is winter hardy, resistant to scab, but sensitive to powdery mildew.
