The variety is a chance seedling discovered in the 18th century in the Canton of Zurich. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and forms a wide crown. Due to its high vitality, the variety is often used as a rootstock or stem-builder for other apple trees. The plant is characterized by late entry into bearing, but subsequently produces high and regular yields.

The fruits are medium to large in size and are round or conical in shape. Their color varies from light green to golden yellow, sometimes with the appearance of slight reddening. The flesh of the fruits is white-yellow in color, juicy and firm. The harvest is suitable for culinary processing, the production of juice and cider, and also stores well during the winter.

The variety is triploid; therefore, its pollen is non-viable and it does not perform the function of a pollinator. The plant possesses high winter hardiness and demonstrates low susceptibility to the main diseases of apple trees, including scab, powdery mildew, fire blight, and fruit tree canker.
