The name Welbo is not an independent variety, but a brand for a mutant of the Red Boskoop variety. The original base variety Boskoop was bred in 1850.

The plant belongs to the group of triploid varieties and is used in pomiculture similarly to the classic Boskoop variety. The main feature of the clone is the production of fruits with more intense coloration.
