The Wheeler's Russet variety is characterized by its dessert taste and fruits with brown russeting. Fruits ripen late, in October, and maintain their consumer qualities until spring, in the period from January to April. The tree has moderate vigor and an upright-spreading crown shape. The variety is self-incompatible and requires pollinators.
Wheeler's Golden Russet is a mutation of the Golden Russet variety. The fruits of this variety are distinguished by greenish-yellow skin with a brown blush and a characteristic bloom. The fruit flesh is juicy, aromatic, and sweet in taste.
