Marchigiana is a local population adapted to the climatic conditions of central Italy. It is not a product of targeted breeding but emerged as a result of long-term natural selection in the Marche region.
The plant is used as a forage crop. Scientific data on specific agronomic characteristics, such as height or disease resistance, are unavailable, as this ecotype is mentioned in publications primarily as a subject for comparative trials with bred varieties.
