The genetic material of the variety, specifically line Mercedes4.11, was widely used in scientific research to create maps of tetraploid alfalfa. The variety belongs to the category of older breeding achievements.

During the selection of the initial material, selection was carried out for resistance to Verticillium wilt and stem nematode, as well as for increased lodging resistance. The variety possessed high yield and increased boron content in young shoots.
