The Sutter variety is used in breeding as source material for developing new lines and serves as a control standard for conducting DUS tests. The plant belongs to the non-winter-hardy group, which allows it to continue vegetation in the autumn period longer than typical winter-hardy varieties.
The level of resistance to a complex of diseases, such as Fusarium wilt, Verticillium wilt, Phytophthora root rot, and anthracnose, as well as to pests, varies from moderate to high. The productivity of the variety is confirmed by long-term comparative forage mass yield trials in various regions.
