The variety is a synthetic population of 137 plants obtained via phenotypic recurrent selection using NIRS analysis and wet chemistry. The genetic base includes forms of Medicago falcata (16%), Ladak (19%), Medicago varia (27%), and Turkistan.
The plant was developed with an emphasis on increasing the relative forage quality. Parental lines were selected for resistance to Phytophthora root rot, which is the primary protective characteristic of this variety.
