The plant is a deciduous tree or large shrub with a characteristic spherical-flattened, often drooping crown. Oval, finely serrated leaves are dark green in summer and turn golden-yellow or orange-red in autumn. In May–June, the tree is covered with large, solitary white flowers 3–5 cm in diameter.
The variety is late-maturing; the harvest ripens in late October – November. Round, brown-colored fruits reach a diameter of 5–6 cm and a mass of 40–70 g. The fruits are edible after a softening process (bletting), when they acquire a sweet, spicy taste. The crop is self-fertile and withstands frosts down to -26…-28 °C.
