The plant reaches a height of about 105 cm and forms from 40 to 44 sessile leaves evenly distributed along the stem. The variety is intended for cultivation on light, loose, and warm soils with low nutrient content.

The seeds of the variety contain about 41.3% oil. Djebel 81 has been used in breeding work as a component for developing other varieties and is also regularly used for scientific purposes to analyze the composition of alkaloids, sucrose esters, and diterpenes.
