The Tennessee 90 variety belongs to the Burley group. The plant is characterized by early maturity and a smaller stem diameter compared to the TN86 variety. There is a TN90 LC variant with reduced nicotine demethylase content, which prevents the conversion of nicotine to nornicotine.

The variety possesses complex resistance to tobacco mosaic virus, tobacco etch virus, tobacco vein mottling virus and tobacco necrosis virus. In studies, the variety demonstrates a high yield of first-grade leaf and a favorable chemical composition, making it a valuable material for breeding programs.
