The plant is a representative of the species Phleum nodosum and is characterized by a more miniature appearance compared to Phleum pratense. The height of the stems is from 10 to 70 cm; the base of the stem often has a tuberous thickening. The variety forms a dense turf with short shoots.
Distinctive botanical features are a diploid chromosome set (2n = 14) and thin inflorescences about 0.5 cm wide. The variety is adapted to moderately dry soils and possesses high resistance to trampling, which makes it suitable for park zones and roadsides.
