The plant has opposite, simple, ovate, green leaves with serrated margins. The stems have a characteristic burgundy hue. Flowering lasts from June to October.

The variety is distinguished by its hardiness; after rooting, it shows drought tolerance. In cold climate conditions, the aerial part may die back to the soil level, but the plant grows back again in the spring. Suitable for container cultivation and for use in border plantings.
