The plant is a subshrub, woody at the base. Stems are dark green or brownish-green with a burgundy tint. Leaves are simple, opposite, oval-shaped with a pointed tip and an unevenly serrated margin, colored dark green.

Flowering occurs from mid-season, beginning in June–July and continuing until September–October. The variety prefers sunny locations or partial shade, moist, organic-rich, and well-drained soils. In regions with cold climates, it requires winter cover or maintenance in cool greenhouses.

The plant is used as an ornamental for flower beds, borders, or container landscaping. It is considered relatively winter-hardy in USDA zones 6–10. It is recommended to avoid waterlogging of the soil to prevent the occurrence of root rots.
