The plant is a shrub with upright stems and lanceolate green leaves. From summer to autumn, the variety produces spike-like inflorescences of tubular bright red flowers.
The variety is a hardy plant adapted to most soil types, provided there is good drainage. In temperate climates, including UK winters, the variety shows good cold resistance.
