The Frilene variety is used in scientific practice as an initial form for conducting genetic research and developing mutant lines. Using chemical mutagenesis based on this variety, samples with resistance to powdery mildew were created, whereas the original genotype is susceptible to this disease.
The physiological traits of the variety include high trypsin inhibitor activity in the seeds. Researchers note that the variety is characterized by a specific leaf tendril surface area and later flowering dates compared to a number of other varieties. Also under study are the characteristics of the variety under drought conditions and the response of root nodules to nitrates.
