The variety has a normal leaf type, not belonging to semi-leafless varieties, and is characterized by a medium stem length. In terms of agronomy, the variety shows low lodging resistance.
In modern scientific practice, Messire is used as a susceptible control when studying pathogens, including powdery mildew, rust, ascochyta blight, and broomrape. Previously, the variety was used in agriculture as a protein crop, including for mixed cropping.
