The Weggiser variety belongs to the sugar pea type, characterized by an early maturity and significant stem height reaching 150 cm. The plant has decorative purple flowers and forms small mangetout-type pods, which are suitable for whole consumption due to the absence of a tough parchment layer.
Cultivation requires the installation of supports, as the stems lodge without them. The recommended sowing depth is 2–3 cm, with an optimal row spacing of 30–40 cm. The plant is considered a time-tested variety used in organic farming and programs for the conservation of genetic diversity.
