The Ghoy cultivar is a result of interspecific hybridization of Populus deltoides and Populus nigra. It belongs to the Unal clone group and was included in industrial afforestation programs in Belgium and the Netherlands. The wood of the cultivar meets the requirements for deflection limitations during drying, which allows for its use in structural applications.

In scientific research, the clone is used for the analysis of physiological responses to stress, wood formation under mechanical loads, and water use efficiency. The cultivar demonstrates high productivity rates and resistance to a number of diseases; however, susceptibility to certain types of damage has been noted in field observations.
