The HUNNEGEM variety is a clone of the Populus × interamericana hybrid, selected in Belgium. In forestry practice, it is used as a commercial variety for timber production, and in the scientific community, it is used as a model system for biotechnological experiments and micropropagation.
The plant belongs to the fast-growing group, demonstrating high productivity in comparative trials. Initially, the variety was selected for resistance to the rust Melampsora larici-populina; however, cases of its infection by new strains of the pathogen were subsequently recorded.
