The tree is 5 to 10 meters tall with a spreading crown and small elliptical leaves. The fruits are spherical, about 8 cm in diameter, with pubescent light yellow skin and firm, juicy, sweet flesh with a wine-like hint and slight bitterness. The stone is large, flat, with a bitter kernel. Fruit ripening occurs in mid-August.

The plant is hardy and prefers well-drained, moist, and fresh soils. The fruits have good keeping quality and, due to their taste profile and flesh that clings to the stone, are most often used for making jams, preserves, marmalades, pastila, as well as for drying and canning. Propagation is possible via seeds.
