ALBICOCCA DI SCILLATO is a local Sicilian population adapted to the microclimate of the Scillato area. The trees are distinguished by their longevity and high resistance to fungal diseases and pests, including the Mediterranean fruit fly, which allows them to be cultivated without chemical plant protection products.
The fruits of this ecotype are small in size, spherical or oval in shape with asymmetrical halves. The yellow-orange skin is often decorated with a red blush, and the soft flesh has a pronounced aroma and a sweet taste. Ripening occurs at the end of May over a period of two to three weeks.
The harvest is collected exclusively by hand due to the fragility of the fruits and the specific terrain of the plots. The produce is used for fresh consumption as well as for the preparation of jams and preserves.
