The name "Alberge Jaune" refers to a historical peach variety, not an apricot. In old pomological references, this variety is described as a yellow-fleshed peach that was widespread in France, particularly in the Montreuil region.

The confusion in classification arose because, in old French terminology, the term "alberge" was applied to certain types of peaches possessing firm flesh similar to that of an apricot. Modern botanical sources and illustrations from the XVIII–XIX centuries unequivocally classify this variety as a peach.
