The Blenril variety is an early, productive, self-fertile variety with vigorous tree growth. Its medium-sized fruits have a yellow-orange color with a distinct red blush, are distinguished by firm flesh, good taste qualities, and a freestone pit. The fruits are well-suited for canning. The variety shows resistance to viruses, however, it can be susceptible to bacterial spot.

The Riland variety also belongs to the category of American apricots. In agronomic literature, it is best known as one of the parent forms used for the breeding of the Blenril variety and other hybrid varieties of the crop.
