The Boccuccia variety group comprises ancient landraces developed in the vicinity of Mount Vesuvius. The trees are characterized by vigorous growth and high yields; they are often planted on a cherry plum rootstock with a vase-shaped crown formation.

The fruit are round in shape with a yellow-orange skin, often displaying a red blush or speckles. The flesh is orange, firm in texture, and has a distinct aroma. Fruit ripening typically occurs at the end of June.

The varieties in the group are versatile and suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. The genetic material of these ecotypes, which are adapted to potassium-rich volcanic soils, is used in breeding programs to improve resistance to fungal diseases, specifically Monilinia.
