The apricot variety CASTLETON is mentioned in mid-20th-century breeding studies in California. It was used in breeding programs as a parent form, in particular, in the development of the Castlebrite variety.

This variety was of interest to breeders due to its resistance to a physiological disorder known as fruit sunburn, which occurs under the influence of extreme heat. Currently, it does not appear in active registries as an independent commercial variety.
