The CECCONA variety belongs to autochthonous cultivars growing in the Vesuvius National Park area. The plant is traditional for this Italian region and is not a product of modern breeding.
The fruits of the variety are highly valued for their intense aroma, due to a high content of terpenes, as well as for a rich composition of phenolic compounds. After harvest, the fruits quickly lose firmness, which requires consideration during transport and storage.
