Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is an accidental seedling discovered in the late 19th century in Germany. The tree is characterized by weak or medium growth and forms a pyramidal crown with drooping fruit branches. The plant is self-incompatible and requires pollinator trees.

The fruits are medium-sized with a heart-shaped, sometimes bumpy form. The color changes from yellow with a blush to bright red at full maturity. The flesh is yellowish-white, soft and juicy, with a distinct acidic taste and a weak aroma. The fruit skin is resistant to cracking.

Due to the high acidity, fruits of the Bickes variety are primarily used for processing, cooking, and canning.
