Variety description

10 August 2026

The term bigarreau denotes a type of sweet cherry with firm flesh. The name Bigarreau Blanc or Gros Bigarreau Blanc was historically applied to various forms of sweet cherries with white or yellow fruit skin.

Trees of this type were described as vigorous, having a pyramidal crown and large glossy leaves. Historically, their demanding nature regarding pollination and late entry into fruit-bearing were noted, which for some forms could take 12–15 years.

In modern literature and catalogs, this designation is not assigned to a specific breeding cultivar, but acts as a generalized term for a group of ancient light-colored sweet cherries.
