Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety matures in June and is considered earlier-ripening compared to the Durone Nero II and III forms. The fruits have a heart shape, a dark red, almost black color, and a short pedicel. The flesh is firm, crunchy, red in color, and intended for fresh consumption.

The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and high productivity, making it suitable for high-density orchards. The variety has medium susceptibility to Monilinia. The self-incompatibility genotype is designated as S1S3, and the variety is often used as a pollinator.

In 1967, the variety was subjected to mutagenesis programs to obtain forms with shorter internodes. It is known by the synonyms Durone di Vignola or Durone di Modena and is included in the list of varieties that have the protected geographical indication (IGP) status as "Vignola Cherry".
