Variety description

10 August 2026

The term Duroni derives from the Italian word duro (hard) and is used to classify varieties with a firm flesh structure, as opposed to soft-fleshed sweet cherries (tenerine). The fruits of this group are medium to large in size and range in color from bright red to almost black, possessing a sweet and rich flavor.

These varieties are traditionally associated with the Vignola region in Italy. Due to their firmness, the fruits are distinguished by high transportability and long-lasting shelf life, which makes them versatile for fresh consumption. In agronomic catalogs, specific forms such as Duroni di Verona or Duroni 3, which possess individual characteristics, may be found under this name.
