The tree is vigorous, forms a drooping spreading crown, and flowers abundantly. Early fruit ripening times typically fall in the second half of May and early June, which allows the variety to avoid damage by the cherry fruit fly.

The fruits are medium-sized, weighing about 4–5 g, blunt-heart shaped, and sometimes ribbed or slightly flattened. The thin, glossy skin acquires a dark carmine or brownish-red color upon full maturity. The flesh is rather soft with a pleasant sweet or sweet-and-sour taste.

The variety is self-incompatible and requires the presence of pollinators that bloom at similar times. The crop is susceptible to Monilinia, prone to fruit cracking under high humidity, and prone to a physiological disorder known as long-leaf syndrome.
