The name Hepsisauer Kurzstiel is not an independent variety, but rather one of the naming variants of the historical sweet cherry variety Grolls Schwarze. In official registries, including the Deutsche Genbank Obst, this variety is classified under its primary name.

The variety originated in the 19th century in the area of the town of Guben and was first described in 1870 in the Illustrated Handbook of Pomology. To search for detailed morphological and agronomic characteristics, the name Grolls Schwarze should be used, as the variety is recorded under this designation in pomological atlases.
