The rootstock is used exclusively for grafting cultivated stone fruit varieties. Its fruits are not considered varietal and do not possess the high flavor qualities characteristic of dessert varieties.

The plant is classified as a semi-dwarfing or semi-dwarf rootstock, allowing grafted trees to reach a height of 3–5 meters. After five years of growth, trees generally do not require permanent support, and grafted varieties enter the fruiting stage in the 3rd–4th year.

St Julien A adapts well to various soil types, including heavy and moist soils, and possesses resistance to Phytophthora rot and fire blight. It has a medium level of winter hardiness and is not suited for extremely low temperatures.
