The GF 43 rootstock is vigorous, while its productivity in terms of fruiting efficiency is lower compared to a number of other rootstocks. It produces practically no root suckers and is best suited for cultivation on moist soils.
Propagation of this rootstock is difficult due to its low ability to root from hardwood cuttings. It is susceptible to Prunus chlorotic ringspot virus, which can cause incompatibility with the scion, and the use of the rootstock sometimes leads to a reduction in fruit size.
