The Contino tree has high vigor, with a crown shape ranging from spreading to upright. Fructification occurs mainly on spurs. The variety is characterized by medium flowering and maturity periods and is self-incompatible.
The fruits have a very hard shell, accounting for about 24% of the total nut weight. The kernel is oblong, medium-sized, weighing about 1.2 g, with a smooth surface. The percentage of double kernels is low, at 3–4%. The productivity level is medium.
The variety is susceptible to diseases caused by fungi of the genus Monilinia spp. It is used in breeding programs, in particular in the study of anther culture in vitro.
