The Le Grand variety was developed in California, USA. Among professionals, it is known mainly as a genetic resource for breeding new varieties and is not considered a primary commercial cultivar for mass cultivation.
The plant is not self-fertile and requires mandatory cross-pollination by insects. The variety is characterized by low yield and difficulties with fruit set, which limits its use in new industrial plantations.
