The Mazzetto variety was developed within the framework of Italian breeding programs and has become widespread in the Mediterranean, particularly in Tunisia. It is characterized by a high degree of self-fertility, with fruit set levels reaching 90% under self-pollination.

The plant possesses resistance to fungal diseases, such as Sclerotinia, and demonstrates adaptive responses to abiotic stresses, including drought and soil salinity. The kernels are noted for their large size and good flavor qualities.

Due to its self-fertility, the variety is actively used in intensive orcharding, as it does not require the planting of pollinator varieties. The fruit finds wide application in the food industry, including the production of confectionery, pastes, and plant-based milk.
