The Tétényi keményhéjú variety is characterized by early flowering and specific requirements for temperature conditions and the number of chilling hours. The fruits have a hard shell, while the variety is convenient for harvesting and hulling.

The plant has marked resistance to the fungal pathogen Diaporthe amygdali, which causes branch canker and shoot blight. The frost resistance of the flower buds is among the highest of Hungarian varieties, with LT50 values in January reaching –20.5 °C … –21.08 °C.
