The variety was obtained as an open-pollinated seedling from the Nonpareil variety. Its seeds are used for growing almond-peach rootstocks due to the ability to produce vigorous and pest-resistant hybrids.
The tree is distinguished by late flowering, which helps avoid spring frosts, and high winter hardiness. The fruits have a thin, well-sealed shell and a sweet kernel; however, the variety is valued primarily for its genetic characteristics. Under humid spring conditions, the tree is susceptible to Monilinia infection.
