The tree is distinguished by its small size, moderately compact crown, and spreading growth habit. The structure of the scaffold branches is similar to the Carmel variety. The nuts are of medium size, have an elongated shape, and a semi-soft, well-sealed shell; the kernel percentage is about 61%.
The variety is classified as late-maturing, ripening 11–14 days later than Nonpareil. The flowering period is close to that of the Nonpareil and Carmel varieties. The chilling requirement is about 400 hours at temperatures below 7°C.
The variety is not self-fertile; other varieties such as Nonpareil, Carmel, Sonora, Winters, Price, Aldrich, or Merced are required for pollination. Difficulties with mechanical harvesting are possible in the first years after planting. Susceptibility to bacterial blight has been noted under certain climatic conditions.
