The variety is a traditional local almond of Mallorca. In scientific literature, it is used as a parent form in breeding programs to study the inheritance of traits such as flowering time, kernel composition, and physical nut parameters. The variety is certified for use within the 'Almendra de Mallorca' protected geographical indication and may be genetically synonymous with the 'Bord de Selva' variety.
Trees of this variety are early-flowering. The fruits have a hard shell and are, on average, characterized by lower weight and size compared to commercial varieties. The plant is grown primarily under rain-fed conditions and is subject to studies regarding resistance to fungal wood pathogens.
