Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety Tardive de la Verdière, also known as Petite verte, is a local Italian almond variety. It is actively used in breeding programs, serving as a female parent for a number of modern varieties.

The plant is characterized by very late flowering and the formation of fruit buds on short spurs. The variety is self-incompatible (genotype S3S9), therefore, to ensure fruit set, it requires other pollinator varieties.

The fruits have a very hard shell and a low kernel percentage (20–25%). The kernels weigh about 1.1 g, have an elliptical or elongated shape with a wrinkled surface, and double kernels are practically absent. The chilling requirement is about 358 hours, and the heat requirement is 8814 GDH.
