The variety COTOGNA DI ROSANO PRIMA is a local Italian ecotype from the Tuscany region, which has been cultivated in the vicinity of Rosano for the last 120 years. The variety is included in lists of crops of interest for the conservation of agrobiodiversity.
The fruits have a round shape, yellow-red skin, and yellow-orange flesh with a wine-colored tint near the stone. A distinctive feature is the firm, hard consistency of the flesh and an intense aroma. The fruits are used fresh, for making jam, and for desserts in wine.
Regarding disease resistance, the variety is characterized as moderately susceptible to peach leaf curl (Taphrina deformans). Precise morphological characteristics of the tree are not described in detail in available publications.
