The variety originated as a chance seedling in an orchard of the St. John variety. The fruits are characterized as medium or large, having orange-yellow skin with a red blush. The yellow juicy flesh easily separates from the pit.

The variety is self-fertile and mid-season, ripening approximately two weeks before the Elberta variety. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, canning, and freezing. The plant possesses good winter hardiness and frost resistance.
