These are heirloom ecotypes whose preservation occurred through folk selection in wine-growing regions. The trees reach a height of 3–4 meters and have a compact, well-branched crown. The varieties are distinguished by high vigor, are adapted to dry climates, and often avoid spring frosts due to late flowering. The plants are self-fertile and produce regular yields.
The fruits are late-maturing, ripening in September–October. They have an average size of 130 to 160 g, characteristic fuzz on the skin, and a coloration ranging from deep red to dark burgundy. The flesh is intensely red. Due to the firm structure and specific flavor with notes of bitterness, the fruits are used more often for making jams, compotes, juices, and alcoholic beverages than consumed fresh.
