Variety description

10 August 2026

The Luisa variety is a deciduous tree with a spreading crown, reaching a height of about 5 meters with a width of 3 meters at the age of 7–10 years. The fruits are large and have a characteristic oblong, "mango-shaped" or "beak-shaped" form. The skin is yellow with a red blush, the flesh is golden-yellow, juicy and sweet.

The variety is self-fertile, although the presence of pollinators can increase yield. Fruit ripening occurs in mid-summer (in February for the Southern Hemisphere), and harvesting requires multiple passes due to the extended ripening period. The fruit flesh becomes soft upon full maturity, which limits transportability.

The plant has good general disease resistance. The fruits are consumed fresh and are also used for making jams and baking. In registration documents, the variety is most often classified as Prunus salicina, although some publications mention its link to European plums.
