The variety is a local traditional type grown in the Puglia region and is considered part of agrobiodiversity. The name is descriptive and unites several varieties with common morphological fruit traits.

The fruits are heart-shaped, with smooth yellow-red skin with a waxy bloom and visible lenticels. The flesh is yellow, juicy, and becomes very soft upon full ripening; the ellipsoid stone is difficult to separate. The pedicel is very short.
