Pyrus pyrifolia is an independent botanical species, not a hybrid of an apple and a pear. It originates from China, Japan, and Korea, where it has been cultivated for a long time.
The fruits have a rounded shape, typical for apples. The main morphological difference from the European pear is the juicy and crunchy flesh.
The term «pera-mela» does not refer to a specific variety but denotes a group of plants. Specific tree characteristics, including maturity dates and disease resistance, depend on the varietal traits of the chosen representative of this species.

Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
